This 2 days a week Carpentry Course provides you with a high level of practical experience in our well-equipped workshops. This course ensures you gain the skills and knowledge needed to start working as a trainee carpenter in the construction industry.

You'll learn about roof structures, door openings, kitchen units, and various types of moulding. Additionally, you'll be taught how to set out your work area, work safely in a working environment, and use tools and materials to make basic wood joints and complete small carpentry projects. This comprehensive training prepares you for a successful career in carpentry.

  • What you will study

    You will study:

    • Complex house and roof construction
    • Wood joints
    • Construction materials
    • Carpentry power tools; their care and uses
    • Building regulations
    • Health and safety
    • Construction Science and Principles
    • English, maths and employability skills
  • Entry Requirements

    You must:

    • Be over 19
    • Have 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 (A*-D), (English and maths desirable, OR
    • A Level 1 qualification (Merit or Distinction) in a related subject.
  • Assessment

    Assessment will be through observation of practical tasks in the workshop, a short written test at the end of each unit and external tests from City & Guilds throughout the course.

    This course is taught on Monday and Wednesdays at 5.30pm-8.30pm
